The overall student population in the Delta School District is up for the 2023/24 school year.
According to enrollment figures from the district, as of October 2023, the total number of students in elementary schools is 8,621, up nine students from the 2022/23 school year. The total secondary school population stands at 7,103, up 142 students from the previous year.
In total, the district has 15,730 students, up 152 from the previous year.
The school district, during its budget consultations this past spring, had an early enrollment projection of around 100 additional students this year.
A staff report for the board of education noted that the latest enrollment projection forecast for Delta indicates that enrollment will continue a slow recovery from several years of decline, and that there is system-wide classroom capacity to accommodate the expected number of students for the foreseeable future.
