Hoping Trudeau only lasts one term

I want to see Justin Trudeau fail as prime minister. I can only pray that his ministry will last four years rather than 20 like previous Liberal sagas.

The narcissistic dilettante has demonstrated his abominable cowardice by ceasing Canada’s contribution to the war against ISIS. Trudeau refuses to acknowledge that Canada has enemies simply gain votes—like the 25, 000 Syrian refugees, most of whom are military aged males, that will be admitted with almost no verification of their possible criminal status. Apparently, climate change and restoring the intrusive long census are of greater urgency than the twin evils of genocide and terrorism.

Meanwhile, Trudeau showed profligacy by appointing more ministers than actual departments along with their absurd, pleonastic titles. (Can a farmer please explain to me the difference between agriculture and “agri-food”?) The ministry itself is a preposterous example of affirmative action. A “human rights” lawyer like Carla Qualtrough should be embarrassed. Since when is choosing someone for a job based on race, sex or disability intended to correct unjust practices as opposed to blatant discrimination? “Because it’s 2015,” quipped The Great White Hope.

The variegated appearance of the Trudeau government belies the ugly history of the Liberal Party. For decades, Liberals opposed granting voting rights to Asians and natives; the Laurier government turned away the Komagata Maru and its Sikh passengers from Vancouver harbour in 1906; the government of Mackenzie King turned away ships of Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany and then ordered the internment of Japanese and Italian Canadians during the Second World War; successive Liberal governments neglected the plight of natives and refused to apologize for what transpired in the residential schools when it was revealed. Now the Liberals pretend to be a party of inclusion through degrading gestures of condescension.

The election strategy of the Liberals was an imitation of that used by the Democrats to elect Barack Obama as president. The Liberals emphasized Justin Trudeau’s youth and aesthetics while portraying him as a contemporary messiah spouting vague promises of change and improvising policy as events unfolded. The obsequious media swallowed it whole and will undoubtedly buttress Trudeau for the duration of his term with little scrutiny.

Only the passage of time and the eventual blunders of Trudeau and his many novice ministers will disabuse the delirious throngs who voted Liberal based on superficial magnetism—or perhaps they only care about buying legal marijuana.

“It would be idle to object to a government because it could not perform impossibilities,” warned Alexander Hamilton.
