Are you interested in making a difference within your own community?

The Delta Hospice Society will be offering a fall volunteer training session starting Oct. 13 for anyone interested in becoming a trained Delta Hospice volunteer.

Delta Hospice volunteers offer meaningful support to Delta residents and families living with a diagnosis of a life-threatening illness, advanced illness or loss.

All Delta Hospice volunteers working directly with families participate in a comprehensive training program to learn the basics of the Delta Hospice Society's philosophy and practice of care.

There are a variety of presenters throughout the 30-hour training program, including health care professionals, clients, volunteers and hospice staff.

The topics include listening and communication skills, self-awareness, pain and comfort, living with dying, spirituality, self-care, grief and loss, and a volunteer panel that presents its experiences in the many different areas of service.

If you are interested in becoming a trained Delta Hospice volunteer, call volunteers co-ordinator Chris Colero at 604-948-0660.

A pre-course interview will be scheduled so participants will have a clear understanding of the course and the expected commitments.

The next training session is scheduled for Monday and Thursday mornings, from 9: 30 a.m. until noon, starting Oct. 13 and running to Nov. 17, at the Harold & Veronica Savage Centre for Supportive Care.

The fee for the program is $65, which covers a small portion of the cost and includes a binder with course material.

For more information or to register, call 604-948-0660.
