In the next few days, owners of more than 469,000 properties throughout Delta and the Fraser Valley region can expect to receive their 2016 assessment notices.

“The majority of residential home owners within the region can expect a modest increase, compared to last year’s assessment,” said Brian Smith, deputy assessor with BC Assessment. “Properties in South Delta and parts of Richmond will generally see the highest per cent increase within the region.”

Assessments for single family residential homes in South Delta are expected to increase by around 17 per cent, while North Delta will see a slightly lower increase of around 12 per cent.

Delta and Tsawwassen First Nation have been added to BC Assessment’s Fraser Valley region along with Richmond, Surrey and White Rock.

For the Fraser Valley region residential strata unit assessments are expected to increase by zero to 10 per cent and commercial and light industrial is up five to 15 per cent

BC Assessment has launched a new website at bcassessment.ca that includes more details about the 2016 assessments, property information and trends. It also provides self-service access to the free online e-valueBC service that allows anyone to search, check and compare property assessments anywhere in the province.

“Property owners can find a lot of information on our website including answers to many assessment-related questions, but those who feel that their property assessment does not reflect market values as of July 1, 2015 or see incorrect information on their notice, should contact BC Assessment as indicated on their notice as soon as possible in January,” Smith said.

Property owners who are still concerned about their assessment after speaking to BC Assessment can submit an appeal by Feb. 1 for an independent review by a property assessment review panel.
