The scope of works generally consist of the installation of sidewalk, curb and gutter, traffic, special crosswalks, pathway lighting, street lighting and other required retrofit upgrades.

Safety improvements are coming to several Delta intersections.

Part of the 2022 Crosswalk, Streetlight and Traffic Signal Improvements Project, city council awarded a construction contract for nine Delta sites. The upgrades include construction of crosswalks and traffic lights to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.

The sites include: Cliveden Avenue at Eaton Way, 53A Street at 10 Avenue, 48 Avenue at Gary Street/Bridge Street, 115 Street at 75A Avenue, 112 Street at Devon Gardens Elementary, 1 Avenue at 55A Street, Arthur Drive at Sacred Heart Elementary, pathway lights between Nordel Way and Dunlop Road, and River Road at Ferry Road.

On Nov. 19, 2021, a pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk at 1 Avenue and 55A Street, resulting in serious injuries.

The improvements to improve pedestrian safety at that site will include an upgrade of the existing crosswalk with new pedestrian activated rectangular rapid flashing beacons, curb extensions and new LED street lighting.

As far as the Ferry Road and River Road site, residents of Marina Gardens expressed continued concerns with traffic volumes in the area, indicating support for a full traffic signal to enhance safety and to relieve some traffic demand using the Admiral Boulevard and River Road intersection.
