This Saturday Canadians can take advantage of the most daylight hours of the year and celebrate the Longest Day of Play.

Delta Gymnastics is inviting the community to a day of fun and play to mark the occasion. This free event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Delta Sport Development Centre in Ladner. Activities include air track, slack lining, mini trampolines and many fun stations.

"Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being of children and youth," said Delta Gymnastics executive director Ana Arciniega. "Play offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children."

Time for free play has been markedly reduced for some children. Some of the reasons are because of hurried lifestyle, increased attention to academics and structured activities. Now that summer is close, this is an opportunity to have some unstructured but safe fun.
