An apparent lack of dog treats led to a funny encounter between a dog owner and a Delta police officer last weekend in North Delta.

According to DPD, on Saturday, Jan. 30 just after 3 p.m. in the 11000 block of 87th Ave., police observed a man attempting to gain entry into a vehicle.

“Police learned that the males’ dog was upset about the amount of treats he was receiving and therefore locked his owner out of his own vehicle,” said DPD. “The prank went sideways as the dog learned the hard way that the lack of opposable thumbs and general knowledge of human technology was key in opening a vehicle from the inside.

“Police utilized the door opening kit from the police vehicle. As police had a hard time with opening the door, the dog continued to stare and police believed the dog was laughing at them. The vehicle was unlocked and police verified that the male is the registered owner of the vehicle.”
