Ladner’s Stacey Lynden has earned a spot at the upcoming Canadian National Barista Competition in Ontario.

She qualified for nationals by finishing fourth at a regional competition in Vancouver last Saturday at Rocanini Coffee Roasters.

“It was a lot to take in. It was awesome,” said Lynden, 32, who works full-time at Stir Coffee House in Ladner.

“I’ve been working in the coffee industry for almost 14 years now, but I’ve never competed.”

At the regional competition Lynden had to make 12 drinks in a 15-minute time limit, as well as give a presentation during the process. She served four espressos, four cappuccinos and four signature drinks to a panel of judges.

Lynden said she’s excited to qualify for the national competition.

“It’s pretty awesome. To be there with the top 16 is pretty crazy.”

The Canadian championships are scheduled to be held in late September in Mississauga.
