A truck accident in East Ladner last Friday (Dec. 4) led to a partial road closure and kept emergency services busy for much of the day.

Delta Police were dispatched around 7 a.m. to the 4700 block 72nd Street where a fuel delivery truck had gone into the eastside ditch, between Ladner Trunk Road and Churchill Street. Near the North 40 dog park.

The truck was stuck on its passenger side with a portion of the fuel tank submerged in the water. As the truck was full of diesel fuel, it was necessary to carefully extract the fuel prior to removing the truck. An excavator was brought in as part of the recovery operation.

Delta Fire was on the scene for a considerable length of time, as were city resources. Provincial Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement inspectors attended the scene as well.

Traffic to the area was re-routed to 80th street before the section of 72nd was re-opened later that evening.

The driver did not receive any injuries. Police did not issue violation tickets in regard to the matter as the incident do not occur on a public roadway.
