The city has awarded a $546,300 contract for a tennis court reconstruction at Ladner’s Hawthorne Park.

Due to existing subsurface conditions, the tennis courts and the practice area at the park have significantly deteriorated and are in need of reconstruction, a report by the parks department notes.

The project will include reconstruction of four tennis courts, a practice area and installation of new tennis court lighting at the 56th Street park and is part of the city’s Sport Court Replacement Program.

Council also recently approved a $203,000 contract to construct four new dedicated pickleball courts immediately east of the existing tennis courts at Cromie Park.

Meanwhile, council this week also agreed to award a contract for an assessment of Delta’s park washrooms and field houses. That assessment will be used to develop a capital life cycle program. Several of the city's public washrooms date back to the early 1970s and have clearly seen better days.

Council already approved the replacement of washrooms at Chalmers and Delview parks.
