Merging with Phoenix Society has brought only good things to Little House Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Society, including more resources and funding to expand the reach of their services.

With similar goals and values, the two organizations officially teamed up on May 1 in an effort to support individuals struggling with substance use and their affected families.

None of their current programming is changing within Tsawwassen-based Little House, says Debbi McKenzie, manager of community counselling and alumni services – and that’s exactly how the City of Delta, Phoenix Society and Little House wanted it.

“Now, being part of Phoenix, we have access to all their program directors and grant writers and fundraisers and all of that. The vision here is definitely to expand our community outreach and be able to offer more programming, more support to Delta residents,” says McKenzie.

This community outreach includes North Delta, where they hope to open a centre and offer resources and services to that community in the near future, she adds.

During the City of Delta council meeting on July 12, they announced that the city would be entering into a three-year funding agreement with Phoenix Society that included $75,000 each year.

“It gives us a big, big relief here because [funding] was year-to-year [before], and we just want to keep serving the Delta residents. There’s a big need for counselling services here in Delta, and we are so thrilled to just be able to continue to offer that service,” says McKenzie.

For over 30 years, Little House has offered community support to those struggling with or recovering from substance use.

“We are a Delta community hub of services and resources promoting health and wellness through prevention, education and collaboration with community stakeholders. We provide a comfortable, accessible and safe place for individual and family counselling, assessment and referral, recovery meetings and peer-to-peer support,” writes their website.
