The Delta Police Department reminds drivers to watch their speed on the new South Fraser Perimeter Road.

With the opening of the South Fraser Perimeter Road, the Delta Police Department has a few more kilometres of road to watch over.
Department spokesperson A/Sgt. Sarah Swallow said that Delta police will be taking care of first response when an incident on the new highway occurs, with support from Deas Island RCMP in South Delta and Surrey RCMP in North Delta.
However, she said, that arrangement will be assessed in the new year.
Aside from the commuter headaches last week surrounding the opening of the South Delta stretch of the SFPR and the temporary closure of Highway 17A for construction, Swallow said there have not been any issues on the new stretch of road.
She does, however, remind drivers to pay attention to the posted speed limits on the newly minted highway, which are only 80 kilometres per hour in some stretches.
“Take it slow and read the signs,” Swallow said.
