Local businessman Wayne Oliver, who owns and operates Oliver Irrigation, has enjoyed the great sport of thoroughbred horse racing for the past five years buying and claiming racehorses at the East Vancouver track.

Oliver has made 33 trips to the winner's circle since 2008, a staggering number considering he primarily claims horses on the lower end of the claiming scale. He is most proud of Wilo Kat who was claimed for a mere $10,000 in the spring of 2012 and has gone on to earn $100,000 for the Ladner resident and will be the favourite on Monday to earn even more money in the $75,000 B.C. Cup Classic.

Earlier this year, Oliver dipped into his pockets to claim Michaels Glory for just $4,000 and in three months has brought back close to $25,000 in return and he will also get a shot to add to that total on Monday as he competes in the $50,000 Stellar's Jay.
