Local snowboarder finds Golden Ticket on Grouse

Ladner's Paul Soukoreff wins Y2Play video contest

Ladner's Paul Soukoreff says he couldn't believe it when he found out he'd won Grouse Mountain's Y2Play Golden Ticket contest.

"I thought my entry hadn't gone through. Then they phoned me up a few days later and told me I was one of the finalists," he said.

Soukoreff, 49, submitted a video about snowboarding with his daughter Richelle, 20, for the last 10 years.

"It was a father-daughter story," he said, noting they mostly do the terrain parks together.

The contest, which attracted over 300 entries, was narrowed down to five finalists with the winner being determined by Facebook fan voting, celebrity judges and Grouse Mountain staff.

Soukoreff wins a season's pass, reserved parking, front of the line privileges, a heli-tour, a "Tram Surf " on top of the Skyride to the top and other prizes.

It's "just a ton of stuff," Soukoreff said, estimating the value at $10,000.

Other finalists included Steph, a hard-working, adventure-seeking mom, Enzo, a hard-studying, break-seeking UBC student, Gareth, who met his wife during a Grouse Mountain ski school lesson and lost 40 pounds on the Grouse Grind, and Sarah, a cancer survivor who returns to the mountain again and again for sanctuary, according to the Grouse Mountain website.

The finalists receive a Y2Play snow pass for 2013/2014.
