Delta police are asking for the public's assistance in tracking down a boater who went missing over the weekend after falling overboard near the Alex Fraser Bridge.

At around 9 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called out to help the Canadian Coast Guard.

Amit Naress, 36, of Surrey went overboard and did not resurface while trying to free the boat he was on from the pilings and barges. He was not wearing a lifejacket and is unable to swim.

That night, police and the coast guard conducted an extensive search until dark.

"The search resumed the next morning with the coast guard using their hovercraft and helicopter, again without success," said Delta police spokesperson Sgt. Sarah Swallow.

A further air search was done Wednesday.

Delta police continue to investigate it as a missing person's case.

Naress is described as an Indo-Canadian male, 5'1" with a muscular build and short brown hair. He has a mole on his cheek and nose, as well as two tattoos, a cobra on his left arm and "ASHNEIL" on his right arm.
