McCallum, a Tsawwassen resident, wife and mother of two, continues to try and make a different in the community by hosting her ninth annual McCallum’s Miles for MS Walk/ fundraiser to raise awareness for MS research and those living with this terrible disease.

During the past eight years more than $40,000 has been raised through her local campaign.

She knows, first-hand, how 30 years of MS can gradually steal a once active and fun-loving father from his family; rob an avid outdoors man of the joys of camping; and cheat a “footie-fanatic” the glory of a lifelong passion for coaching and playing soccer.

McCallum was so young when her father was diagnosed that she has no memory of him being able to walk without a limp. Challenged by frustration, fear and sheer determination, she took the steps her father could no longer take, by standing up and taking action to #ENDMS.

In 2012, McCallum’s Miles took its first strides towards raising $30,000 to help those suffering with the disease and to fund the research, prevention, treatment and cure of MS. Sadly, after only six years of her fundraising efforts her father, Victor, lost his battle on March 17, 2018.

“I would really like to continue making a difference for those impacted by this disease,” she said. “I am honoring him by committing to continue this walk. Each year I try to make this a community walk, child, pet friendly and of course wheelchair accessible, however, this year like last year, we need to keep the walk virtual and ask for those that are walking to stay within your communities.”

The virtual event is scheduled for Sunday, May 30, at 10 a.m. with a five km walk.

McCallum invites the community to walk in their neighbourhood and show support for those living with this disease and help her in raising funds and awareness for MS.

Wear red to honour those living with MS and reflect on those diagnosed and/or living with this disease and maybe learn something new about MS.
