The Delta Optimist has a new person at the helm.

Pierre Pelletier took over as publisher on Nov. 16, replacing Matt Blair who is now the new publisher of the North Shore News.

Pelletier grew up in Edmonton and is a University of Alberta grad (BA History/Economics).

He was a freelance writer for eight years (magazines and newspapers), with his first newspaper job in Wainwright, Alta. as a reporter in 1999.

He has been with Glacier Media (the Optimist’s parent company), since 2004 mostly as a publisher or group publisher.

He describes himself as a big history buff, especially 20th century American history and is a big sports fan of the Edmonton Oilers.

He is also a marathon runner and golfer.

“I’m very proud to be named publisher of the Delta Optimist. The Optimist is not only one of the best weekly newspapers for its circulation in the province, I’d say it’s near the top of all weekly papers in Canada,” said Pelletier. “We have an extremely loyal readership, which drives our editorial team to keep writing those great local stories, whether it’s for the print edition or on our website.

“My goal is to be vigilant with the hyper local coverage of South Delta. No one comes close to covering – and uncovering - the news and events in South Delta as well as the Optimist and I intend to continue that legacy.”
