Minister's Minute

Let the bells ring

"Let the bells ring and the banners fly..." Now there's a quote that will make you think, "Where have I heard that phrase?" Worry no more, it was attributed to Foghorn Leghorn of Bugs Bunny fame!

Today at All Saints in Ladner we let the bells ring and pulled out all the banners to celebrate our Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth as the longest reigning English monarch.

Without having a debate about monarchy or Elizabeth's role as "Supreme Governor of the Church of England," we celebrated her role as a leader on the world's stage. We prayed for her, as we often do, that she might continue to lead with wisdom and compassion.

We also prayed for the leaders of our own community of Delta, that together we would continue to build God's kingdom - a place where there is justice and peace for all. We long for the day when there will be food on every table and safe shelter for every person in our community.

At All Saints we hear Jesus command to "feed my people" and we literally have made it a part of our ministry to offer a Community Meal once each month.

But like many communities of faith, we struggle with the logistics of keeping our building in tiptop shape.

If you would like to become a partner in this ministry, please join us for a gala dinner on Friday, Sept. 18 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Help in whatever way you can to "ring out the bells" and help a neighbour in need.
