Money sent but Facebook friend turns out to be fake

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

April 12, 4:47 p.m.,1200-block of 56th Street: A male entered a business empty handed and left with a large bag of items believed to be dental hygiene products without making a payment. The suspect fled the area on a bicycle.

April 14, 2:12 p.m.,1100-block of Fairway Views Wynd: Complainant reported they left their vehicle in the carport overnight to charge. When they returned in the morning the charger, valued at $400, was gone. Vehicle not operable without the charger. No suspicious persons seen in the area.

April 14, 10:15 p.m., 1600-block of 56th Street: Police investigated a report of a cover stolen from a motorcycle parked in an underground parking garage. Investigation by police found that several vehicles in the garage had been targeted. No sign of forced entry into the gated parking garage.

April 17, 1:50 p.m., 1700-block of Beach Grove Road: Complainant reported they left their red MEC bike trailer unlocked in their driveway and when they returned in the morning the trailer was gone. The complainant heard a noise alongside the house in the middle of the night but did not investigate.

LADNER

April 13, 6:51 p.m., 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported a family member who was involved in an online relationship had sent a significant amount of money to the male friend. Investigation revealed the Facebook account to be fake. Financial institution to conduct follow up investigation

April 15, 1:20 p.m., 5000-block of Central Avenue: Complainant reported their vehicle left in the driveway was entered and rummaged through. The complainant advised the vehicle was left unlocked and 10 CDs were stolen.

April 17, 1:11 p.m., 5300-block of Windjammer Road: Complainant reported their father's pickup truck was broken into sometime overnight and rummaged through. Complainant indicated the vehicle was left unlocked and nothing was stolen.

April 17, 1:05 p.m., 5300-block of Windjammer Road: Report received from complainant that their unlocked vehicle was entered sometime overnight. Two pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses were stolen.
