A man is in serious condition in hospital and police are investigating after a motorcycle crash in the George Massey Tunnel Sunday night.

At about 10: 50 p.m., Deas Island RCMP were called to the south end of the tunnel after a motorcyclist travelling north on Highway 99 was thrown off his bike after it hit the wall.

Police said prior to the crash the 2003 Suzuki dual sport motorcycle was seen weaving in and out of traffic and was in the left lane when it started to drift and struck the wall.

An off-duty firefighter and police officer were on scene and immediately attended to the driver, a 45 year-old man.

Police said the man suffered a compound fracture to his arm and leg as well as serious lacerations to his face. He was transported to Vancouver General Hospital and is currently in serious but stable condition.

Police do not consider speed as a factor in the crash.
