MP should concern herself with pension issue

I have had a similar experience to that of Darren Garbutt, mentioned in his excellent letter, about our MP's failure to respond to letters from her constituents.

I, too, have had a number of letters go unanswered.

Most recently I wrote to MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay on Feb. 25 concerning a serious issue with federal pension legislation, wherein there is a conflict between the Pension Benefits Security Act and the current legislation regarding the Federal Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) and Companies' Creditors Arrangements Act (CCAA).

As a result seniors' pensions are at risk in the event of a bankruptcy, because the deemed trust provisions in the Pension Benefits Standards Act, are not given force and effect in insolvency proceedings.

This is a serious issue for pensioners and you would expect, since she has many seniors in her riding, that she would take steps to address this.

Yet I am still waiting for a response two months later, despite having traced the MP twice since writing my original letter.

It seems our MP is too busy to take up legitimate concerns from her constituents.

Perhaps we will do better with another MP after the upcoming election.
