North Delta Crime Beat: $3,000 worth of meat stolen from store

Files of interest for this week from Delta Police.

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Oct. 3, 11300 Block of 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had received in the mail a credit card for an account opened fraudulently in their name. The bank informed of the incident and has commenced an internal investigation. The complainant provided with a police file number and advised to report the fraud to the credit bureau.

*Oct. 3, 11200 Block of 64th Avenue: Complainant reported an ICBC $47 rebate cheque was mailed to them in April but not received. The complainant believes that a former house mate fraudulently cashed the cheque and was reporting for information purposes.

*Oct. 6, 6300 Block of 120th Street: Complainant reported they had lost their iPhone with attached wallet containing credit cards. Fraudulent transactions had been made at a gas station and convenience store. The complainant has cancelled all credit cards and the bank has advised they will be conducting an investigation with a possible reimbursement of funds. Bank statements to be provided to police in order to proceed with an investigation.

*Oct. 7, 11300 Block of 82A Avenue: Complainant reported that in late September the catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle parked outside their residence. The complainant unaware the converter had been stolen until the vehicle was seen by a mechanic. Police provided a file number for ICBC. 

*Oct. 7, 8100 Block of 129th Street: A business reported three suspects were observed loading approximately $3,000 worth of meat into shopping bags and then exiting the store without payment. The suspects refused to stop when requested and were observed boarding the bus. Police provided with a description of two males and a female and were able to locate the bus but the suspects had departed at an earlier bus stop. A police patrol of the area located one shopping bag containing meat valued at $500. File still under investigation with images of suspects to be distributed for possible identification.

*Oct. 9, Highway 91 & 72nd Avenue: Police received a report of a hazardous situation as a mattress was blocking the left lane of northbound traffic on the highway. Police attended the area and removed the mattress.

*Oct. 9, ND HQ 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported a possible fraud as a company had sent them a cheque for $1,750 instead of the requested $150 to join a learning institute. The company then asked for a refund of the excessive funds. As the complainant believed they may have been a victim fraud they were requesting advice on how to proceed with the situation. Police advised the complainant not to cash the possibly fraudulent cheque and to request the company to send only the required $150. 

*Oct. 9, 8400 Block of 116th Street: Complainant reported the rear passenger window smashed while their vehicle was parked on the street overnight. Nothing of value taken from the vehicle. Police provided the complainant with a file number for ICBC purposes.
