North Delta crime beat: More catalytic converter thefts

Some smash and grab thefts reported as well

Files of interest for this week from Delta Police.

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in-progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

*Nov. 3, 88th Avenue and 119th Street: Complainant reported their vehicle had the rear window smashed and the vehicle rummaged through. Approximately $5 in change stolen.  No surveillance video or witnesses.

*Nov. 3, 7800 Block of 115A Street: Complainant reported a break-in to their home. The suspect likely entered the house through a bathroom window. A bedroom safe appeared to have been pried open and items taken. Identification services to attend to locate possible fingerprints. A basement tenant who was home at the time indicated they did not hear any suspicious activity.

*Nov. 4, 700 Block of Derwent Way: A business reported the theft of several aluminum posts. The suspects entered the property by cutting the chain on the rear fence. The posts are described as 8” long by 6” wide with a total value of $300. Police discussed strategies to prevent further incidents. Property has since been secured with thicker chain and padlock.

*Nov. 5, 10500 Block of Harrogate Drive: Complainant reported the theft of the catalytic converter from their vehicle parked in the driveway. No surveillance video available due to power outage in neighborhood. File number provided for ICBC.

*Nov. 5, 11500 Block of 93rd Avenue: Complainant reported the catalytic converter had been stolen from their vehicle sometime overnight. Police attended and a canvass of the neighbourhood proved negative likely due to the loud windstorm in the area at the time which obscured any noise of the converter being sawed off the vehicle. File number provided for insurance purposes.
