North Delta Crime Beat: More catalytic converter thefts reported

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.

Feb. 1, Watershed Trail, Hwy 10: Complainant reported they left their vehicle locked in the parking lot and when they returned, the vehicle had been accessed and their wallet stolen. The wallet contained a driver’s license, bank cards, and $200. Prior to the bank cards being cancelled they were used at several locations. The bank forwarded information of the fraudulent activity to the police. File under investigation.

Feb. 2, 11800 Block of 78B Avenue: A citizen reported observing a male carrying a tool, taking something from their neighbour’s vehicle. Police attended and located two vehicles which had their catalytic converters cut out. Police spoke with the owners of both vehicles and provided them with file numbers for insurance purposes. 

Feb. 2, 11900 Block of 73A Avenue: Complainant reported to police the catalytic converter was stolen sometime overnight from their vehicle parked on the street.  Surveillance video revealed an older white/silver SUV pull up and a male crawl under the complainant’s vehicle and then leave the area. Police to conduct a search of the area for surveillance video. 

Feb. 4, 5800 Block of Abbey Drive: Complainant reported while they were out for the evening, someone broke the rear door glass pane, and gained access to the home. The upper four bedrooms were rummaged through, and an unknown amount of jewelry stolen.  Surveillance video revealed a suspect wearing gloves and a mask. The complaint was to provide the police with surveillance video and a list of items stolen. File under investigation.

Feb. 4, 11900 Block of 80th Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of two bicycles from a bike locker located in a parking lot. Police attended and were informed the bicycles were locked to a bike rack in the locker and had been stolen sometime during the past three months. Both bicycles were GT Aggressors, valued at $1,600. Police were to be provided with video surveillance to continue with an investigation of the theft.
