A woman was this week arrested and charged in the death of the man found July 3 unconscious in a North Delta home.

Delta police announced Tuesday morning that Beatrice Thomas, 37, of North Delta was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her common-law husband 38-year-old Quannah O'Soup.

At about 12:30 a.m. on July 3, police were called by paramedics to a residence in the 11500-block of 80 Avenue in North Delta.

O'Soup was found unconscious and unresponsive and was later declared dead at the scene.

"Although the cause of death was not determined at that time, police investigators treated this death as a homicide, said Delta police spokesperson Sgt. Sharlene Brooks.

Both O'Soup and Thomas were known to police.

Police had responded to a domestic call at the home in March. After that, a peace bond was imposed on O'Soup to only contact Thomas when he was sober. He was allowed to live at the home as long as he abided by conditions, Brooks said.

She said toxicology reports would determine if O'Soup had been drinking before he was stabbed.

Thomas' two children, aged 10 and 15, were at home at the time of the stabbing, but did not witness the attack, Brooks said. They are currently being cared for by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Thomas appeared in Surrey Provincial court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until her next appearance, which is scheduled for July 27.
