Canada day celebrations around south Delta on monday

Canada turns 146 on Monday and there a few local events planned to mark our country's birthday. If you'd like to head out and take part in Canada Day celebrations with others here are some options: The Canada Day party starts early at the Delta Museum in Ladner Village. Festivities will spill onto Delta Street beginning at 9 a.m. There will be a pancake breakfast, scavenger hunts, games, crafts, music and a rousing rendition of O Canada.

The museum's event wraps up at noon with the cutting of a giant birthday cake.

The Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club is putting on its annual Canada Day celebration at Diefenbaker Park.

The fun goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with live entertainment, face painting, hotdogs and drinks as well as the club's Streetside Community Kitchen serving food and beverages.

An official ceremony and cake cutting is set for 1 p.m. Diefenbaker Park is located at the corner of 56th Street and 1st Avenue in Tsawwassen.

The Ladner Legion, at 4896 Delta St. (just down the road from the museum), will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a face painter, balloon artist and magician.

Kirkland House in Ladner will once again have a party to mark Canada Day from noon to 4 p.m. The heritage house, which has undergone more renovations in the last year, will be open and will have craft displays inside.

There will also be tours of the newly restored and relocated Harris Barn. With 8,000 square feet of space over two floors and an occupancy capacity of 475 people, the barn, which had a grand opening last month, will be used for celebrations and events.

The Kirkland Scouts will be barbecuing hotdogs while there will be games for the kids and miniature train displays outside.

Peter Chipman will sing O Canada while

the Circle of Friends band and the Delta Police Pipe Band are also scheduled to perform.

Dignitaries are also expected to be in attendance.

Kirkland House is located at 4140 Arthur Dr., Ladner.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at of British Columbia will be holding a funfilled day of celebrations in honour of Canada Day. All residents are cordially invited to Baitur Rahman Mosque at 9570 River Rd. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The celebrations will commence with a

flag raising ceremony and special prayers for the safety and peace of the nation. The rest of the day will consist of various funfilled programs for the entire family. The mosque is the largest in B.C. and officially opened last month.

Chalmers Park in North Delta will be the site of Canada Day festivities starting at 6 p.m. The celebration is sponsored by the Corporation of Delta, the North Delta Ministerial Organization and Celebrate Canada.

There will be children's activities, a barbecue and a family concert. Fireworks are scheduled for approximately 10:15 p.m. Chalmers Park is located at 11400-76A Ave. For more information, visit www. delta.ca.
