The opening date for a highly anticipated new café in Coquitlam’s Austin Heights neighbourhood is getting closer.

In a comment on its Instagram account, La Foret said the new Coquitlam location should be ready to accept its first customers “very soon.”

And while the café didn’t commit to a specific date, in a subsequent comment it did say the opening would be “sometime in May.”

La Foret opened its flagship café in a refurbished garage on Jubilee Avenue in Burnaby in 2017.

Since then it’s become a popular destination renowned for its brunch and sweet confections including signature black waffles coloured by squid ink, its own ice cream in flavours like New York cheesecake and its exclusive blend of espresso, all served up in a bright, spacious, garden-like interior decorated with trees, plants and a feature wall draped with green vines.

In 2023, La Foret opened a second location near the Royal Oak SkyTrain station.

The café hasn’t specified the address for its new Coquitlam venture, but the old Paul’s Auto Body shop at 1135 Austin Ave., has been undergoing extensive renovations over the past several months and, like the Burnaby café, it retains the giant roll-up garage doors.

The neighbourhood is keenly awaiting the new destination for sweet-tooth satisfaction.

“Can’t wait,” said several commenters on Instagram.

“May is going to be a great month,” said one.
