Opportunities in nature at Earthwise keep volunteers healthy and happy

The evidence is in. Time in nature makes us healthier, happier and smarter.

The evidence is in. Time in nature makes us healthier, happier and smarter. On the threshold of a hopping spring season, Earthwise is hosting an information session on opportunities to volunteer in its nature-rich Boundary Bay demonstration garden and organic farm. An open house will be held on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Red Barn.

Hear about what's happening at Earthwise, as well as rewarding ways to connect with the natural world, and others, to make a better tomorrow.

Discuss current and future volunteer opportunities with Earthwise's farmer, gardener, educator and other staff. You can even sign up on site to help with immediate needs, like dividing beefriendly perennials for the May 14 plant sale or pitching in to help with spring farm jobs.

Or arrange for a follow up visit to explore the best fit for your passion, skill or special knowledge. That's how it started for Earthwise's "Tomato People," "Mason Bee Guy" and other volunteer personalities. Chat with some of them over refreshments.

"From nature we know that each organism has an important role to play in the ecosystem and we feel the same way about our volunteers," says executive director Patricia Fleming. "Whether you simply want to pull weeds for the therapeutic value of being outside and escaping modern day stresses, or you have time on your hands to take ownership of a big project, there is a niche place here for you."
