Pilot injured after small plane crash in Ladner

A pilot is recovering from a broken leg after a small plane crash at Delta Heritage Airpark on the weekend. The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

A pilot is recovering from a broken leg after a small plane crash at Delta Heritage Airpark on the weekend.

The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. According to witnesses, the small home-built Zodiac plane encountered unknown issues right after take off at the Ladner airstrip. The plane touched down and then immediately took off again before crashing into the weeds.

The pilot, a 38-year-old man, was the lone occupant was taken to hospital for treatment for a broken leg.

The Transportation Safety Board was contacted and advised of the crash, but did not visit the scene.

Delta police are investigating the crash, but it does not appear that there are any external factors or issues with the plane that could have contributed to the crash, said department spokesperson A/Sgt. Sarah Swallow.

Fire crews responded to the crash as well, however, there were no hazardous materials or environmental issues as a result of the incident.

The name of the pilot is not being released.
