The 33rd edition of Delta's annual Polar Bear Swim is set for New Year's Day.

More than 300 hearty souls are expected to start 2013 off with a refreshing dip in the chilly water of Boundary Bay in the holiday ritual at Centennial Beach.

Festivities begin at 11: 45 a.m. with children's crafts, family activities and entertainment by stilt walkers.

Registration begins at noon and the swim is set for 1 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded to first three swimmers to reach the bell as well as the oldest swimmer and the swimmer from furthest away.

Once swimmers have reached the bell, all participants will be cleared from the water.

Registration forms are available on the events page at delta.ca, allowing participants to complete the form in advance of arriving for the swim.

For those looking for an indoor workout, Delta's municipal recreation facilities will offer free swim, skate and weight room workouts on New Year's Day. Donations of non-perishable food items to the local food bank are appreciated.
