Port Coquitlam green-thumbs ready to start planting their gardens can pick up free compost this weekend.

On Saturday, April 6, the City of Port Coquitlam will have compost available at the public works yard (1737 Broadway St.) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. — or while supplies last.

The mineral-rich compost is organic waste from the city’s green cart program, which last year collected about 6,288 tonnes of materials in its curbside program.

Port Coquitlam residents can bring a shovel and pails to load up their compost; the giveaway is not open for commercial businesses or for people living outside of PoCo.

The municipality will host two more free compost events this year.
