Premier John Horgan is remembering the near 27,000 Canadian veterans of the Korean War and the 516 who never came home from the country’s “forgotten war.”

"For more than three years, the 'land of the morning calm' was shattered by the sights, sounds and horrors of war on the Korean peninsula. Canadians served under the flag of the United Nations in the air, at sea and on land before transitioning to a peacekeeping role,” said Horgan in a statement released Monday morning.

"We reflect on the sacrifices of those who served in one of the deadliest conflicts in our country's history. We reflect on the military and civilian lives cut short, families separated and the pain of those who returned home with scars, both visible and invisible.

"For generations, Canadians have risked their lives to build a more peaceful world. We honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans by standing united against hate, violence and intolerance at home and abroad."
