The Optimist is pleased to announce that Ian Jacques has joined the editorial team as a reporter on a full-time basis.

An award-winning editor and multi-media journalist, Jacques has been at the Optimist for the past year in place of reporter Jessica Kerr who has been on maternity leave. Kerr has now moved on to the Vancouver Courier.
Jacques was the editor of the now closed Burnaby/New Westminster NewsLeader and was editor of Coast Reporter in Sechelt for 12 years.

He has also worked for the Squamish Chief, Merritt News and freelanced at various publications throughout the Lower Mainland.

In his spare time he coaches and helps manage a professional slo-pitch team called Eh Team Vancouver and is also a passionate sports fan cheering on the Yankees, 49ers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Jacques is looking forward to joining the team at the Optimist to cover court, crime and community news.

“The past year covering reporter Jessica Kerr’s maternity leave has given me a chance to get to know many great people in South Delta,” he said. “I love the passion and the community spirit of South Delta and I look forward to getting to know even more people and telling their stories.”
