Routine traffic stop nets pot and paraphernalia

The following are some of the calls of interest the Delta police responded to in the South Delta area between Monday, Aug. 5 and Monday, Aug. 12.

Tsawwassen August 5, 9:05 p.m., 800-block Tsawwassen Beach Road: Police responded to a report of a bottle rocket starting a grass fire. Fire extinguished by fire department. No suspects or witnesses. August 6, 11:45 a.m., Tsawwassen Area: Complainant reported as requested by his bank that his bank account had been accessed fraudulently. The fraud occurred on line on two occasions withdrawing a total of $12,000 from his account. The complainant indicated that he accesses his account via his smart phone or his laptop computer. Police suggested to the complainant that he ensure his computer is virus free, the WiFi is secure, and all passwords to his bank account are changed.

August 6, 4:12 p.m., Tsawwassen Area: Complainant received letter from a software development company stating her personal information had been accidently released and her banks have been informed of the incident. The complainant advised that credit cards had been created in her name and the accounts had been red flagged. Complainant followed up with her banks and credit cards were cancelled.

August 7, 1 a.m., 100-block 66A Street: Report received from complainant that she had heard six gun shots in the area of her residence. Pedestrians in the area confirmed seeing fireworks along the water nearby. Area patrol of the area proved negative.

August 8, 1 p.m., 16th Avenue: Complainant expressed concern that even though the speed limit in the area had recently been reduced to 30 kilometres per hour, drivers continue to speed through the area at 50 to 60 km per hour. The complainant is particularly concerned about the many children playing in the area.

Information about the situation will be forward to the traffic division for further review.

August 10, 2:08 a.m., 4600-block 51st Avenue: Report received from complainant that a group of youths had pulled several boards from his fence and that he had located the boards on a car in the area. The owner of the vehicle indicated that she was at party in the area and when she came out to the car there were several males near her vehicle. Patrol of the area proved negative. Damage to fence which is an ongoing problem is $200.

August 8, 2:39 p.m., 1100-block 56th Street: A male observed by a loss prevention officer and a witness leaving the super market without paying for two bags of groceries valued at $250. The suspect was seen leaving the area in a vehicle, which was stopped by police in the 1900-block of 56th Street. A male in the vehicle who provided a false name admitted to the theft and was arrested. Correct name obtained and the suspect was found to have six outstanding warrants. Suspect transported to cells.

Ladner August 6, 3:52 p.m., 6000-block 46A Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of her son's $450 bike parked at the side of her residence. A garden shed was also entered by breaking open the handle but nothing appeared to be stolen. Neighbourhood inquiries proved negative. August 7, 11:21 p.m., 3600-block River Road West: During a routine traffic stop police found a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger admitted to smoking marijuana thirty minutes before driving. Permission was given to police to search the vehicle and several items including a small amount of marijuana and a small grinder where seized and tagged for analysis and destruction.

August 9, 5:45 p.m., 4800-block 44A Avenue: Complainant reported her bicycle stolen from the side of her residence. The bike is described as being blue/grey with silver handle bars and seat, and grey saddle bags. Police provided the complainant with the Corporation of Delta phone number to search found bicycle storage.

August 9, 10:48 p.m., 4900-block Chisholm Street: A community Crime Watch member observed a small group of patrons outside the pub running around and flashing body parts. Patrol of the area by police proved negative.

August 11, 9:30 a.m., 4800-block Georgia Street: Complaint reported that some time overnight his motor scooter parked in the parking lot of his apartment complex had been damaged. The scooter which is secured to a parking stall curb with a chain had the ignition punched out. Estimated damage $100.

August 12, 10:46 p.m., 1000-block 44th Avenue: A group of youth was reported drinking and smoking marijuana on the grounds of the elementary school. Police attended but the youth were gone on arrival. A police patrol of the area proved negative.
