SDSS players venture into kitchen to make soup for the homeless

Teens spend Friday night to aid Food on the Corner's weekly efforts

Four members of the South Delta Sun Devils football team spent last Friday night making large batches of soup for Food on the Corner.

Matthew Wollin, Brady Rough, John Longay and Rene Sencio volunteered their time to help the organization that provides soup, sandwiches, coffee and sweets every Saturday to the homeless on the Downtown Eastside.

The boys cut up all the vegetables to make the soup.

"I can't believe how easy this is actually," the boys remarked as they chopped away. "More people should do this."

The football players are encouraged to do volunteer work and many of them previously helped load the van for Food on the Corner.

The boys plan to get their team involved and make a few more batches of soup over the cold winter.
