Second outdoor movie set for Saturday night

Festival at Diefenbaker prior to screening at dusk

One down... three more to come!

The Business Improvement Association of Tsawwassen will present the second of four outdoor movie nights this Saturday, Aug. 6, at Diefenbaker Park.

The event kicks off at 6: 30 p.m. with a pre-movie festival with lots of free activities, demonstrations, music and food celebrating the movie about toys that will be featured at dusk.

(Movie titles can't be disclosed in the paper.)

"Movie nights are really two distinct events that happen on the same evening," explains BIA executive director Ana Arciniega.

"Many people bring their children to the festival part of the event, and then they take them back home when the sun sets. Other people start coming over to the park later in the evening and they are just there for the movie showing on the screen. There is a period of time when the two groups merge and the park is alive with people. It is very fun to watch."

Activities planned for the pre-movie festival this Saturday include a free nine-hole mini golf courtesy of Tsawwassen Springs, the presenting sponsor for the night.

There will also be a relay race with "Combat Carl" present in full gear and a piñata. Doghouse will play its lively Celtic music and many other groups will be present doing crafts, face painting and a uniquely Tsawwassen "ice blocking" competition (sliding down the hill sitting on an ice block).

Bring a picnic from any of the restaurants or coffee shops in Tsawwassen or visit the Tsawwassen Lions Club concession tent at the park with hotdogs, beverages, popcorn and candy available for purchase.

This year, proceeds from concession sales from all four movie nights will benefit one local charity: Reach Child and Youth Development Society.

Reach has been offering services to children and families with special needs in Delta for over 50 years.

Movie begins at dusk (approximately 9: 30 p.m. depending on the light).

Future movie nights are Aug. 20 at the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall and Sept. 3 at Diefenbaker Park.
