Shake Zone simulator highlights Emergency Preparedness week

Experience the impact of an earthquake at Fire Hall Centre for the Arts in North Delta on Friday

It's Emergency Preparedness Week and the Corporation of Delta is encouraging residents to be ready.

From May 1 to 7, Delta is hosting events and promoting Emergency Preparedness Week to help Deltans get ready for any disaster, natural or man-made.

The Shake Zone mobile earthquake simulator will be at the Fire Hall Centre for the Arts in North Delta on Friday from noon until 6 p.m. The simulator allows people to experience the impact of an earthquake and aims to motivate residents to be prepared in case of a disaster. Friday's display will also include information on how to get prepared for an earthquake.

The municipality is also later this year offering free emergency preparedness workshops. The workshops, which aim to teach residents the risks, how to make a plan and what to do in an emergency, run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 28 at the Ladner Leisure Centre and Sept. 27 at the South Delta Recreation Centre.
