Shoplifter stopped before he can leave with goods

Employee gets him to surrender $1,450 in items

The following are some of the calls of interest the Delta police responded to in the South Delta area between Monday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Dec. 2: Tsawwassen

. November 26, 9: 55 p.m., 1600-block of 56th Street: A male and female broke the padlock and pried the deadbolt on the door of the maintenance office of the hotel. An employee arrived at the office and observed the two suspects who casually said hello and walked away. As a result, the many valuable items in the room remained intact.

Police will attempt to identify the couple from the video surveillance.

. November 28, 9: 10 a.m., 5200-block of 6th Avenue: A car parked in the driveway was entered overnight and the complainant's wallet was stolen. The wallet contained several inactive credit cards and a driver's licence. No damage to car and point of entry unknown.

. November 28, 10: 27 a.m., 1700-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported his vehicle parked in the underground parking lot was broken into sometime overnight. The driver's side door lock had been punched out to gain access. The vehicle was ransacked but nothing missing.

. November 29, 9: 55 p.m., 1100-block of 56th Street: A customer entered the supermarket and selected several grocery items that she placed in her shopping cart, covered the items with a tote bag and then left the store without paying.

The suspect was observed by the loss prevention officer who arrested her and contacted police. Police arrested the suspect and transported her to headquarters. She was charged and then released on a promise to return to court at a future date.

. November 30, 12: 40 p.m., 1300-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported the valtag from his licence plate had been stolen while he was in the credit union. No witnesses or suspects. File generated for insurance purposes.

. November 30, 2: 20 p.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: A clerk in the drug store observed a customer select goods valued at $1,450 and place the items in his duffle bag. The employee approached the suspect and the goods were surrendered to the employee before the suspect left the store. Police located the suspect, who has an extensive history of theft, a short distance from the store. As the theft had not been completed, the suspect was not arrested but he was given orders banning him from the store.

. November 29, 2: 49 p.m., 5700-block of 64th Street: An unknown person gained entry to the residence by smashing the side main door sometime during the morning. The suspect stole cash and jewelry from the living room. No witnesses or suspects located.

. November 30, 10: 59 a.m., 4800-block of Elliott Street: The complainant believes she left her wallet in the pet store. By the time the complainant realized her wallet was lost, her credit card had a $110 charge. The wallet contained several debit and credit cards that were cancelled. Information regarding cards entered in the police information computer system.

. November 30, 12: 34 p.m., 4400-block of Clarence Taylor Crescent: A citizen attended police headquarters to drop off a wallet, containing cards and cash, he found on a public bus. Police contacted the owner of the wallet indicating the wallet had been found.

. December 2, 1: 23 p.m., 5000-block of 47th Avenue: The complainant reported his son's debit card had been lost and was used to withdraw $100 from the bank. The victim had lost his wallet but the fraud had not been discovered until several days later. The wallet was located but was missing the debit card.

. December 2, 10: 24 a.m., 6900-block of 49A Avenue: A report was received that damage had occurred to the building at Bell Park. Unknown persons had pulled down a soffit panel and several other panels were damaged. Corporation of Delta notified of the damage.
