⁠According to Delta police, there are many benefits to joining the Block Watch program - one being to children, the Block watch sign means that someone is looking out for them.

Block Watch is a community-based crime prevention program that involves community members working with DPD. Participants watch out for each other's homes, and report suspicious activities to the police and to each other. ⁠

The Block Watch program was started in B.C. in 1986 in response to the concerns of citizens about crime. The program was modeled on a similar project in Seattle which was effective in reducing residential break and enters by up to 60 per cent.
