South Delta club shines at Kyokushin Karate Nationals

South Delta Kyokushin Karate produced some outstanding results at the recent Canadian Kyokushin Karate Championships at BCIT in Burnaby.

Competing in three different forms - Kata, Non-Contact and Knockdown - the local contingent came up with 14 medals.

Leading the way was an all-South Delta final in the women's 15-and-16-year-old 120-lbs and under Knockdown category with Victoria Knoblauch getting past teammate Amber Fidyk.

In the men's 17-and-18 160-lbs and under Knockdown class, Daiki Yamada captured the gold medal. A fourth Knockdown medal was won by Nathan Spencer who took bronze in the 12-and-under 71-80-lbs category.

In the Non-Contact girls 13-to-16-yearold division, Fidyk (gold) and Knoblauch (silver) continued their domination with the results reversed from Knockdown.

Sebastian Saddul also struck gold in the 12-and-under 86-lbs-and over class.

Spencer added his second medal of the championships, winning gold in the Non-Contact 71-85-lbs class. Teammate Graham Jackson earned bronze.

In boys 12-and-under 70-lbs-under category, Cole Beauchamp (silver) and Caleb Naysmith (bronze) rounded out the Non-Contact medal winners.

Knoblauch and Fidyk made it three medals each, earning silver and gold respectively in the Kata Division 2 White/Orange Belt Taikyoku 1/Pinan 1 class.

Spencer added his second bronze medal of the championships in the Kata Division One 12-year-and-under White/Orange Belt Kata sono ichi/Taikyoku 3 category.

Also doing a terrific job representing the club were Graham Jackson, Caleb Naysmith, Ethan Spencer, Jeramie Hein and Michael Hill.
