South Delta Crime Beat: Community vegetable stand vandalized and cash stolen

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

• July 6, 10:27 p.m., 5900-block of Kirkwood Place: Complainant reported unknown persons running in and out of abandoned residence. Upon arrival, police observed an unsecured rear door to the property. There were no signs of forced entry or damage. Search of the property was negative for any intruders. Unable to contact property owner, so Corporation of Delta to secure rear door.

• July 7, 11:32 a.m., 6500-block of 1A Street: Complainant reported sometime overnight community vegetable stand vandalized, jars smashed onto street and approximately $20 in cash stolen. Canvass of neighbourhood determined a group of young adults heard in the area around 2 a.m. Approximately $60 to repair damage to structures.

• July 7, 11:43 a.m., 400-block of Shannon Way: Complainant reported theft of gutter hangers worth $120 from the front yard of residence sometime between 10:10 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.

• July 8, 11:14 a.m., 5400-block of 16th Avenue: Complainant reported theft of front license plate from vehicle while parked at residence. Plate entered into police database.

• July 9, 4:34 p.m., ferry causeway: Complainant reported theft from backpack. Stolen items included iPhone in pink case. File still under investigation pending any video surveillance footage

Ladner

• July 7, 10:55 p.m., 5400-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Police observed a red truck failing to signal while leaving parking lot of local business. During traffic stop, odour of alcohol was detected. Driver issued 90-day suspension after failed roadside test. Vehicle impounded and towed.

• July 7, 11:54 a.m., 6000-block of 49A Avenue: Complainant reported he had been contacted by collection agency stating he owed $1,751.16 on bank account. Complainant does not bank with this institution and did not pay any monies. Complainant advised to contact Equifax and financial institutions to put accounts on fraud alert.

• July 7, 11:27 a.m., 7000-block of Venture Street: Complainant reported that 12 flower baskets valued at $1,236 were stolen from the exterior of a local business. Police attended and viewed surveillance footage, determining two males in a four-door pick-up were associated with the theft.

• July 7, 6:27 a.m., 5200-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported the front door of a local business had been smashed and shopping cart located at front door. Nothing appeared to be taken from the business.

• July 8, 10:10 p.m., 6600-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported unknown suspect left business without paying for bottle of rum and six-pack of coolers valued at $50. Suspect left in a white H-Haul truck.

• July 7, 9:45 p.m., Highway 17A and Highway 99: Officer driving an unmarked police vehicle observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Driver issued ticket for excessive speed and vehicle impounded for seven days.
