South Delta crime beat: Crackling noise leads complainant to observe group of hooded teens

Police notified and investigating possible disturbance

Files of interest for this week from Delta Police.

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. Tsawwassen

*June 8, 1 Ferry Causeway: A stolen vehicle from 100 Mile House was located and recovered in the long-term parking lot of the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. Police located the vehicle unlocked and with no damage. Both license plates were attached. The vehicle was towed to Roadway for examination by identification services.

*June 9, 5200 Block of 4A Avenue: Complainant heard a cracking noise and then observed a group of teens, wearing hoodies and face coverings, on the street. Upon checking, the complainant found damage to panelling of their fence, which backs onto a public walkway. File number requested by the complainant for insurance purposes. 

*June 9, 1200 Block of 56th Street: A driver lost control of their vehicle and struck a metal lamp post. The driver suffered lacerations to their arm, was notably confused, and was slurring speech. Two breath samples were provided as requested with both reading “Fail”.  The driver was served a driving prohibition, the license was seized and the vehicle was impounded. 

*June 10, Police Headquarters 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported their spouse’s credit card had been fraudulently used to purchase $60 worth of food from a local fast food restaurant. The credit card was given to a family member to make a purchase and the complainant was told the card had been lost. The card has been cancelled and the restaurant will check surveillance video for footage of a suspect.

*June 11, 400 Block of Allen Drive: Complainant reported the catalytic converter cut off sometime overnight from their vehicle parked on the street. Theft likely related to similar thefts, which occurred in the area. The cost to replace the converter was approximately $1,500. File concluded pending any further information, which could assist with the investigation.

*June 11, Unit Block of Centennial Parkway: Complainant reported their canoe missing from their residence. The complainant informed police the canoe had been located in a different area with approximately $150 damage. Damage may have been intentional or caused by the waves. No surveillance video in the area.

Ladner

*June 9, 5500 Block of 44th Avenue: Complainant reported three separate deliveries made to their residence were not received. It is believed the packages valued at $670 were likely stolen. No surveillance video or witnesses. The complainant was advised to install security cameras or obtain signatures.

*June 9, Police Headquarters 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported finding online business orders totalling $20,000 believed to be fraudulent. Multiple orders were made where the payment did go through. The complainant believes they will be asked for refunds for orders which did go through and has asked police to investigate. 

*June 10, 4600 Block of 54A Street: Complainant reported their vehicle parked in front of their residence stolen sometime overnight. All keys were accounted for by the complainant.  The vehicle is described as a dark blue F350 with a large winch on the front. The vehicle was added to the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.

*June 11, 4100 Block of Deltaport Way: Police attended a single-vehicle accident. The driver stated the vehicle while turning, spun out of control and hit the concrete medians on the south side of the road. Minor abrasion to the driver’s arm, but medical attention declined. Approximate damage to the vehicle is $30,000 and $5,000 to the barriers.  No signs of impairment or witnesses. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

*June 11 4400 Block of 50th Street: Complainant reported two youths attempted to pull down the complainant’s pride flag. Police conducted an area patrol, but were unable to locate the youth. Screen captures of the youths were provided to police for possible identification. The flags will be rehung in a new location.
