The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the past week:
Tsawwassen and TFN
*Nov. 3, 9:02 p.m., 4800 block 53rd Street: Police conducted a traffic stop to check for sobriety. Police read the driver the breath demand, who subsequently provided two breath samples, both of which resulted in a “WARN” reading. Police seized their driver’s license, and issued them a three-day driving prohibition.
*Nov. 4, 5:40 p.m., 5000 Canoe Pass Way: Police were dispatched to a theft in progress wherein the complainant observed the suspect conceal multiple knives, tools, and clothing. Police located the suspect, who gave up the items without issue, and the store declined to pursue charges in the matter.
*Nov. 5, 4600 block Hawk Lane: Police assisted Delta Fire in identifying an unconscious person found in a smoke-filled unit of a condo building. The unconscious person, later found to have been intoxicated, had left food on the stove, causing the smoke and fire. They were identified and taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and further assessment. No other injuries reported, thankfully.
*Nov. 6, 8:25 p.m., 4000 block Fisherman Way: Police were dispatched to a reported suspicious person in a nearby construction site. Police located the person, who advised they were working on site all day, and had returned to retrieve their tools for another job. Police confirmed the story and advised the complainant.
*Nov. 7, 11:42 a.m., 4949 Canoe Pass Way: Police were dispatched to a late report suspicious circumstances call after the complainant advised a male tried to sell them gold in the parking lot for a second time. The complainant described the seller as a middle-aged man with dark hair and a dark beard, dressed in a blue suit and wearing lots of jewellery. He was seen driving a 2000’s blue minivan with Ontario plates.
Ladner
*Nov. 1, 4:03 a.m., 8000 block Ladner Trunk Road: Police were conducting static laser speed enforcement when they observed a vehicle travelling at a speed of 142 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Police issued the driver a ticket for excessive speed, and a mandatory seven-day impoundment of their vehicle.
*Nov. 4, 11:18 a.m., location withheld: Police were dispatched to assist with fireworks disposal after a complainant advised they had been given fireworks by a friend and did not want them. Police seized the explosives for destruction and thanked the complainant for their due-diligence. Reminder: you need a permit to operate fireworks anywhere in Delta.
*Nov. 5 1:09 p.m., Highway 17A/Highway 99: Police were dispatched to a collision scene after a vehicle drove through the Highway 99 on-ramp guard rail and crashed down into the new casino construction site. Police, fire and Emergency Health Services removed the driver, who was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and contained the scene. No additional injuries were reported, luckily.
