South Delta Crime Beat: Fraudster writes cheque but it ends up bouncing

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

March 30, 8:19 p.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: A couple entered a business empty handed and left carrying a large grey bag full of merchandise without making a payment. The business was alerted to the theft by the exit sensor alarms. The suspects are described as white male and female about 30 years of age. The female was wearing a black hoodie bearing a dog's face with big eyes and a red nose.

March 30, 11:09 p.m., 400-block of English Bluff Road: The complainant reported they were out of town and when they returned they found the hot water-on-demand heater missing from the unlocked electrical room at the side of their home. The heater is described as Bosch brand and was not hooked up.

April 1, 4:23 a.m., 1000-block of Eden Crescent: Complainant reported their residence had been broken into sometime overnight. Suspects gained entry through a north facing sliding glass door that was left wide open. Jewelry, cash and other items stolen.

LADNER

March 29, 8:55 a.m., 4600-block of 53rd Street: Complainant reported they left their vehicle parked in front of their home and in the morning they found a small hole through the rear passenger side quarter panel window. Also on the way to work the rear passenger side tire was found to be flat. Police attended and confirmed the hole to be consistent with a pellet gun. Police located a small pellet in the vehicle.

March 29, 11:02 a.m., 4900-block of 57th Street: A father and son reported their credit cards stolen from an unknown location. One of the cards was used at a single location for several small transactions before cards cancelled.

March 30, 8:47 p.m., 6300-block of Windjammer Road: Complainant received a letter from a business indicating that $1,080 was past due on their cell phone account. Contact number called and the complainant was informed the amount due was for five cell phones purchased in Cuba. Police determined the letter, which was poorly scanned, was likely fraudulent and appears to be a scam.

March 30, 1:57 p.m., 7100-block of Vantage Way: A business reported tires and rims valued at $2,600 were removed from their vehicle sometime overnight. Police seized two scissor jacks for examination.

March 31, 2:30 p.m., 4600-block of 60B Street: Complainant received an email claiming to be from Canada Revenue Agency requesting the complainant's personal information. The complainant was directed to a website www.cra-gc-themeaningfultransaction.com where she entered her credit card and SIN numbers and provided her mother's maiden name. The CRA was then contacted and it informed the complainant the request was fraudulent.

March 31, 11:29 a.m., 4900-block of 58B Street: The complainant reported someone had written a fraudulent cheque on their account, which had bounced, and they had been charged a $90 NSF fee by the bank. The bank has reversed the charge.
