South Delta Crime Beat: Police arrest cyclist with keg of beer on his back

Investigation finds keg stolen from local business

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

May 3, 2:21 p.m., 1500-block of Duncan Drive: Report received of a suspicious male trying to sell gutter cleaning in the area. Police attended and spoke with the male who identified his employer. Police spoke with the employer and confirmed the solicitor was legitimate. The male and employer were advised by police to have company ID to prevent further complaints.

May 4, 3:39 p.m., 1100-block of Ferguson Road: Complainant reported their unlocked pickup truck was entered overnight and rummaged through. Items stolen included a pair of sunglasses.

May 6, 10:08 p.m., 5300-block of 4A Avenue: Complainant reported son's bike left unattended for an hour and half at a friend's house and when they returned the bike was gone. Information about the bike entered in the police database and later recovered.

May 6, 2 p.m., 1100-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported they lost their purse while at the shopping centre. The bag is described as a small over-the-shoulder handbag containing personal and bank cards, passport and $60 cash. Complainant advised to cancel bank cards and passport.

May 7, 12:02 p.m., 1600-block of 56th Street: Police approached by a citizen inquiring how to dispose of rifle ammunition as they were moving out of the province. Police took custody of the ammunition. The citizen was required to provide identification and sign for the transfer. The ammunition was marked for destruction.

May 8, 3 a.m., 56th Street and 16th Avenue: Police observed a person with a keg of beer on their back riding a bicycle and not wearing a helmet. On seeing the police, the suspect jumped off their bike, dropped the keg and fled the area. Police apprehended the suspect and the investigation found the keg had been stolen from a local business. The suspect was arrested.

May 4, 7:56 a.m., 9400-block of Burns Drive: Complainant reported the theft of a vehicle from their barn sometime overnight. The vehicle, which has inactive insurance, is described as a 2002 Ford F250. The vehicle hit the edge of the barn door on the left side as it was backed out and damage should be evident.

May 4, 2:56 p.m., River Road West: During patrol, police observed two males leave a vehicle, walk to the end of the pier and appear to share a marijuana cigarette. The suspects were approached and a strong odour of marijuana was detected. The men were arrested and warned about the possession of a controlled substance and subsequently released from custody.

May 6, 11:37 p.m., 4900-block of 57A Street: Following a noise complainant, police attended a residence and advised the person in charge they would have to ask their guests to leave. Police stood by as approximately 100 guests left the party without issue.

May 6, 7:27 a.m., 47A Avenue and 48B Street: Police received a report of an ongoing issue with construction noise in the area. The complainant indicated they work shifts and that the construction starts at 7 a.m. and is inconsiderate towards the community. The complainant wished a report be filed as they would be making a further report with municipal bylaws.

May 6, 6 p.m., 5400-block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported a person left the premises with an open bottle of wine and drove away in a vehicle. Police attended but were unable to locate the suspect.

May 7, 8:37 p.m., 4600-block of Holly Park Place: Report received of a loud party. Police attended the residence and found the owner's son was having a party with friends in the backyard. The parent assured police they would make the friends quiet down.
