Spring clean-up in the City of Delta starts on April 8.

The time of year is here when Delta residents want to clean out their garages, backyards, and stuffed closets in order to welcome a new spring.

And the City of Delta is ready to make the chore easy.

The city’s 2024 Spring Clean-up in Tsawwassen is set for April 8 and April 9 in Ladner.

Residents who normally receive city garbage collection can put out their larger items of junk on those days for pickup.

However, there are limits as to how much trash to truck out to the curb. The amount left can’t be larger than a pickup truck load, or 2.5 m x 1.2 m x 1 m.

As well, the items can’t be overly large and must be able to be handled by two people.

Furthermore, loose material isn’t accepted so everything must be bagged or bundled.

According to the city’s website, not meeting such guidelines could leave the item sitting at the curb where residents must still collect it or remove it.

Some of the items that will be accepted include luggage, patio umbrellas, pool covers, as well as furniture such as tables, desks, chairs, bookshelves, entertainment centres, plastic patio furniture and metal lawn furniture.

Appliances such as stoves, barbecues, dishwashers, dryers and washing machines also will be hauled way — with the exception of fridges and freezers which will not be taken away.

Scrap metal also will be taken but such items will be collected separately so residents are asked to keep those apart from the other junk that’s at the curb.

Any questions about what can and can’t be picked up can be answered at 604-946-3260 or at: www.delta.ca/contact.

In North Delta, the Spring Clean-Up will take place over two days.

If regular garbage pickup day in North Delta is Wednesday, then the collection date will be April 17.

If the regular garbage collection day in North Delta is Thursday, then the collection date is April 18.

The city said that recycling is part of Delta’s waste reduction goals. Often, items in good condition left at the curb are picked up by others for re-use.

Another alternative is to donate reusable items to local organizations and thrift stores.
