Delta police last week arrested a local teen after a series of sexual assaults in South Delta.

In June, police asked for the public's assistance in identifying a young man who was allegedly groping women in Tsawwassen.

In each case, the suspect ran up behind an unsuspecting female and either grabbed their buttocks, or bear hugged them around the waist and breasts, before fleeing on foot.

On July 17, officers arrested a 14-year-old boy.

The teen, who cannot be named due to his age, is facing six charges of sexual assault. He has been in police custody since his arrest last week and is scheduled to appear in court next week.

"Allegations like this we take very seriously," said Delta Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Ciaran Feenan.

Police are continuing to investigate the allegations and have set up a tip line. Anyone with information about the alleged sexual assaults is urged to call the department at 604-946-4411 and refer to file 13-11497, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
