It’s a blow for aspiring young actors, producers and those wanting to learn about visual effects for the film industry.

The Delta School District this week notified parents that the Delta Film Academy, operating out of the Delta Manor facility in Ladner, will not be operating for the 2024/25 school year.

“Due to declining student enrolment, we are unable to sustain the program, leading us to the difficult decision to close it,” the notice stated.

The plan to shut down the academy, which held an open house just last week, was not specified when the school district released its proposed operating budget earlier this week.

The program, which began in 2012 as a film production academy, was open to students from grades 8 to 12.

The notice also assured parents that school counsellors will work with students through the transition to choose alternative courses that align with their interests and career goals.

The academy’s final Gala Showcase event will be held at the Genesis Theatre on Monday, June 24, staring at 6:30 p.m.
