A large-scale East Ladner greenhouse that’s made the switch to pot is now involved in the recreational cannabis oil market.
Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc., which has partnered with Village Farms greenhouse, announced it has shipped 6,000 40-millilitre units of its SYNC 25 CBD oil to the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch, which runs the government B.C. Cannabis Stores.
The Emerald-branded pure CBD oil offers consumers a non-THC, smoke-free product alternative, according to Emerald.
“We are pleased to offer our new Emerald-branded wellness product SYNC 25 to the recreational marketplace in British Columbia,” said Dr. Avtar Dhillon, president and executive chairman of Emerald, in a news release. “The introduction of SYNC 25 marks the next step in our product growth strategy to develop innovative and quality consumer products that respond to a growing demand while providing higher profit margins.”
The oil product is extracted by a company called MediPharm Labs Inc.
A spokesperson with the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch explained that public and private cannabis retailers are permitted to sell dried cannabis, cannabis oils that comply with federal requirements, as well as seeds.
CBD oil has been particularly popular with B.C. Cannabis Stores customers and private retailers since legalization. CBD products, especially oils and capsules, tend to sell out quickly after shipments are received, the spokesperson said.
Stores can also sell cannabis accessories, as defined in the federal Cannabis Act, such as rolling papers or wraps, holders, pipes, water pipes and bongs used in the consumption of cannabis.
The federal legislation regulating edibles is expected to come into effect later this year.
