Pack your patience, commuters.

Riders wait in line at Bridgeport Station Tuesday evening for buses to Delta and Surrey.

As Metro Vancouver contends with the messy aftermath of Tuesday's snowstorm - and overnight rainfall - TransLink is cautioning public transit users things are not back to normal Wednesday morning.

TransLink issued an alert early Wednesday (Nov. 30) warning customers they "should expect considerable delays on parts of the bus system this morning."

In particular, the Metro Vancouver transit agency indicates the delays will largely impact riders travelling in and out of Richmond, Surrey, South Vancouver, and New Westminster.

Not only are road conditions challenging in some areas, but overnight traffic jams throughout the region "have caused buses to return to depots late this morning," explains TransLink. "Traffic jams in key areas throughout Metro Vancouver have caused buses to return to depots late this morning. As a result, service to many bus routes will be cancelled or reduced, while buses that have been recovered late are inspected, maintained, and refuelled."

Indeed, some commuters crossing Metro Vancouver Tuesday night found themselves snarled in lengthy traffic delays due to accidents resulting in the closure of the Alex Fraser Bridge and George Massey Tunnel along with several arterial roads. Some motorists reported being stuck for upwards of seven or more hours making trips between municipalities.

Commuters are urged to check TransLink's Twitter feed, or use its Trip Planner to check the status of the bus route they need.

HandyDART is operating with limited essential service, prioritizing those with medical needs, notes TransLink.
